Thank you for participating in our Open Days at IDA, which took place last Friday in October as part of the Silesian Architecture Days organized by the Association of Polish Architects, Katowice Branch.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves not only with the activities of the Institute but, above all, with the collections held in the Archive. Memorabilia from prominent architects who have made a lasting impact on the region’s history, such as drafting instruments, private collections of books, films, slides, records, and notes, complement the rich collection of design documentation and archival photographs housed in IDA-BS at 12 Francuska Street in Katowice. The centenary of the Silesian Library’s activity also provided an excellent opportunity to trace the complex history of the Library’s new headquarters, dating back to the 1950s. Original conceptual drawings from the collections of Jurand Jarecki and Stanisław Kwaśniewicz were presented, serving as a starting point for the development of architectural and implementation documentation for the building on Plac Rady Europy, as well as earlier unrealized concepts. The collection was complemented by the presentation of three currently restored models of the Silesian Library from the 1990s, representing the initial phase of the building’s construction.
A word about the Silesian Architecture Days
This is the most important series of architectural events in Upper Silesia, organized annually by SARP Katowice, under the patronage of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship. Within the Silesian Architecture Days, architectural competitions, film screenings, exhibitions, meetings, architectural walks, and the “ARCHIziemniak” integration meeting of architects, held at the House of Architect’s Creative Work in General Jerzy Ziętek’s villa in Ustroń, are organized.
