Tadeusz Barucki (b. 1922) was an architect, traveler, and researcher driven by an insatiable curiosity for the world of architecture and a passion for documenting it. His books, articles, and lectures have created a unique repository of knowledge. At a time when travel was a privilege afforded to only a few—both in Poland and across the Eastern Bloc—Barucki’s accounts offered the sole window to unfamiliar worlds. For students and architects on every continent, his work became the most reliable source of information about Poland and Central Europe.

He visited, studied, and photographed the world’s most magnificent structures—both ancient and modern. In meetings and conversations with the greatest architects of his time, Polish and international alike, he explored the very definition of architecture. He amassed hundreds of interviews and manuscripts, creating a distinctive compendium of contemporary architecture destined to inspire generations to come.

This book is an attempt to showcase the vast accomplishments of Tadeusz Barucki and serves as a gift to the centenary celebrant on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
