The Great History of a Small District

We cordially invite you to a lecture by Katarzyna Ossolińska, a historian and librarian professionally associated with the Center for Scientific Information and Academic Library. She researches and popularizes the history of Koszutka and serves as the editor of the “Koszutka historia i architektura” Facebook page.

Koszutka, the smallest district of Katowice, has a rich history. Its origins date back to the 17th century when it was a small agricultural hamlet on the outskirts of the village of Bogucice. Over the years, it remained sparsely populated. The degradation of the area caused by mining activities hindered its development and construction. However, the changes initiated in the 1930s and continued after 1945 shaped the district into an urban area with interesting pre-war architecture, a model socialist-realist housing estate, and bold examples of late modernism. Today, Koszutka is considered one of the most attractive districts of Katowice.
